It has been a great pleasure to welcome more than 100 scientists, clinicians, engineers, based in academia and industry, from 15 countries and 5 continents to the 7th International Workshop on Cardiac Mechano-Electric Coupling and Arrhythmias

The Workshop, hosted by the Institute for Experimental Cardiovascular Medicine at Freiburg, featured 32 lectures, 40 poster presentations, and more than 8 hours of scheduled discussion time (there was, of course, much more opportunity for exchange during the coffee and lunch breaks in the poster area). The Workshop’s opening session on 21 September 2016 coincided with the festive inauguration of our new institute, and after three days of Deep Science, the concluding evening featured 4 hours of non-stop rock classics by an amazing Deep Purple tribute band. May many of the new ideas that emerged during both scientific and social interactions turn into tangible projects and collaborations!

Special congratulations go to the awardees of the trainee poster presentations:
Marbely Calderon-Fernandez (Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research) and Melanie Zile (Johns Hopkins University)
Livie Dorwling-Carter (ETH Zürich), Katharina Kroll (University of Freiburg), Eilidth MacDonald (Dalhousie University),
and Akriti Nanda (University of Oxford)

With kind regards on behalf of the Organising Committee, I hope to see you at the next edition (tentatively in 2019),

Peter Kohl
